TRAINING

Firefly Farm specializes in the training of young horses to shine in various disciplines.

INSTRUCTION

Lessons are taught by Nancy and Nicole Ligon. We focus on the slow and steady process of bring horses and riders along by building strength, confidence, and experience, and using goal planning and competitions to guide students along their paths.

We have limited availability in our lesson program, and have students from beginner riding through Preliminary eventing. Our students can ride our lesson horses for lower level lessons, lease from a limited selection of Firefly horses, board their own horse if space is available, or trailer in for lessons.

Private and group lessons are available. Please see services list for up to date information.

FACILITY INFORMATION

Firefly Farm, constructed in 2008, is a large custom designed facility with the comfort of the equestrian and horse in mind.  It is home to 20 12’x12’ box stalls, two wash stalls, a grooming stall, a 24’x24’ heated tack room and access to a tack locker.

The indoor is 200’x90’ and has the added convenience of being attached to the barn. Both beautiful structures are built by King Construction and their reputation for excellent, quality work is widely known throughout the East Coast.

The 150’x250’ outdoor arena is fenced with high-quality and safe PVC fencing.

There are also cross-country jumps on the farm and the selection is growing. We are fortunate to have access to beautiful hacking right out of our backyard.

We believe horses are healthiest when a large amount of their time is spent in safe and spacious turnout pastures. We will make sure every horse can have at least 6 hours of turnout per day and in many cases will stay out for longer depending on weather and pasture situations.

Accommodations will also be made for horses/ponies who need to be on limited pasture for health/weight management issues. Our fencing is high-quality, no-climb wire mounted on wood posts with a top board and thin strand of electric wire on top. Double fencing to keep horseplay to a minimum separates many of the pastures and all of the main gates are mesh on the bottom for extra safety.

TRAINING

Do you have a horse that needs some schooling, a tune up, competition experience, or retraining? We love bringing along young horses for eventing, dressage, foxhunting, and retraining off-the-track thoroughbreds. Some of our former in training horses have gone on to be safe and reliable jumping horses for adult amateurs, have qualified for the American Eventing Championships for many levels, and most importantly helped their owners be confident and reach their goals. Nicole is an accomplished competitor and would love to help put competiton miles on your young horse.

We have limited availability for horses in training at Firefly for full training board at 5 rides per week or half training board at 2 rides per week. Please see our services list for more information.
